Vicki Lynn Goebel, 76, died Saturday December 9th, 2023, at Cherry Park Plaza in Troutdale, Oregon, following a long bought with dementia. She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Terry Goebel; her daughters Amanda Bamford and Rachel Boetel, and her son John Goebel; her ten grandchildren, four great grandchildren, and many close friends. Mom was born and raised in Portland, Oregon and is the daughter of Ralph and Barbara Preston. Mom met dad while they were both attending Portland State University. Mom and dad were married June 15th, 1968. They lived in and around Portland before settling in Gresham to raise a family. Mom was a full time mom and wife. Over the years of raising us she briefly took jobs working in the school cafeteria at Highland elementary in Gresham and then many years later she worked at Danner boots in Portland, Oregon. Mom enrolled in a nursing program at Portland Community College. After some time she dropped the courses due to the time demands it put on her schedule. Mom was a wife and mother first. She always made sure the house was clean and that we had plenty of food to eat. She really wanted to finish nursing but the intense workload pulled her away from her kids and she felt guilty for not being there for us. She would have made a great nurse as her heart was as big as they come. Mom was a Christian with a strong faith who walked closely with her Lord. She played the piano at the churches they attended for many decades. She lived out her faith in her every day life and was an inspiration to many who knew her. One of her passions was working in the yard or garden. She loved her flowers, especially Lilacs, and growing fruits and vegetables. Another of her passions was horses. Mom had many pictures, figurines and horse blankets. When her kids were young they would go with her parents Ralph and Barbara on vacations and would ride horses daily. She loved to brush them and feed them carrots. There are no words that can adequately describe how much she loved us. Everything she did was done out of love for us and for dad. We are who we are today because of the great love and time she put in to us. We could not have asked for a better mom and friend. At the lowest points in my life she was there with a hug and to cry with. Her whole life was about us. I can only hope and pray that one day my kids will look at me as I look at her. “The loveliest masterpiece of the heart of God is the heart of a mother.” —St. Therese of Lisieux I love you with all of my heart. Thank you for the love, the care, the patience, the faith that you helped to instill in me. Some day I will see you again on the other side of this life. Your memory and your physical health will be eternally restored. “My mother is my root, my foundation. She planted the seed that I base my life on, and that is the belief that the ability to achieve starts in your mind.” —Michael Jordan I love you.
