Ante “Tony” Matulich, beloved husband, father and grandfather, passed away peacefully in the afternoon of December 10, 2018, seven days short of his 85th birthday, surrounded by his loving family.

Tony was born on December 17, 1933 in Dragove , Dugi Otok, Yugoslavia on a small island in the Adriatic Sea. He eventually followed his father Fabijan’s footsteps and immigrated to the United States in 1952, along with his mother, brother and sister. They settled in Portland, Oregon in the melting pot area known as Northwest Portland and Slabtown. There he befriended other fellow immigrants from Croatia, Poland and Germany.

Tony worked and retired after several decades with Aramark Uniform Company, originally known as Northwest Industrial Laundry. Upon retirement, after living in Northwest Portland for many years, he relocated to his final home in the St. John’s neighborhood of North Portland. There he enjoyed gardening and just relaxing. A glass of wine and a good cigar were never far away from the man loved ones affectionately called “Daddy’O”. Tony was also a remarkable cook, specializing in his holiday fish stews and garlic filled lamb.

He was married twice and helped create three wonderful children. Tony is survived by his wife of 47 years Margaret, sons Tony Jr. and Bruno (Deborah), daughter Michelle (Chris), grandson Gabriel, granddaughter Danica, brother Zeke of Vancouver, Washington, sister Vesna of San Pedro, California and countless other relatives and loved ones.

A Celebration of Life will be at Omega Funeral & Cremation Service, 223 SE 122nd Avenue, Portland, Oregon, 11:00 AM December 17, 2018.  CLICK HERE FOR DIRECTIONS
