July 31, 1943 - May 22, 2017 Share your Memorial with Family & Friends Stephen “Tony” Martin was born on July 31, 1943 in Roswell, New Mexico. He had a twin sister, Mary. He was raised in San Antonio, Texas, in Alamo Heights. He attended private schools, Lockhill & 2nd Acadamy grammar school. His best friend was Jerry Smith, he was a straight arrow. At Jefferson High, he lettered in Football & Baseball while maintaining a 3.96. He received a scholarship in football & baseball to University of Texas. He played both sports for one year & signed with the New York Yankees – B Ball team in Tallahassee, Tennessee. After one season he was moved to A Ball. Then he was traded to the Detroit Tigers AA team. After he pulled his Achilles, In 1962, he joined the Navy. He went to Radar school in Hawaii. In 1967 he became a Seal in Vietnam. He left the service in 1968 and spent 2 yrs in San Francisco. Then Tony moved to Washington and lived on the coast and logged. In 1984, he started to work for Peoples Bank. In 1986, he met Lori and they were friends for many years. In Nov 1991, they went on their first date & he proposed marriage within 3 weeks. Over Memorial Day, 1992 they went to Reno & were married on May 24, at a chapel in the MGM Grand. They had a formal wedding on Sept. 12, in Renton, Was. In 1995, Tony & Lori moved to Portland, Oregon with US Bank. In 1998, he became a Supervisor in Check Capture Operations. After 23 years with US Bank, Tony retired in 2007. He joined the Senior Softball League at Delta Park in 2009 and played for 6 years. Tony was diagnosed with Small Cell Lung Cancer in 2014. Throughout that first year of radiation & chemotherapy he continued to play with 3 different leagues. After a long, hard fought battle, Tony passed away at home on May 22, 2017, with his wife & friends in attendance. Tony is survived by his loving wife of 25years, Lori. They loved to travel, especially trips to San Francisco, Alaska, Hawaii and Eastern Oregon, where they camped and went Catfishing. And for 20 yrs, to Seattle Seahawks and Mariners games. They loved to share good food, great dancing and fine wine
