Richard Olaphant McClaflin

April 21, 1927 – March 8, 2022

Richard “Dick” McClaflin, 94, of Milwaukie OR, passed away on March 8, 2022. His life ended exactly the way he wanted, peacefully, surrounded by family, and at home.

Dick believed in three principles that guided him throughout his life. The importance of family, home, and taking care of others.

His family included Jackie, his wife of 63 years, his two daughters, Jessica and Deborah, four grandchildren (Richard, Robert, Elizabeth and Helen), 10 great-grandchildren (Todd, Ryan, Rochelle, Tiffany, Austin, Cody, Samantha, Sarah, Steven, Thomas), and three great-great grandchildren (Annabelle, Landon, Mya – and one on the way!). He loved nothing more than to see as many family members packed into his 1,000 square foot home. When not at home, he enjoyed clamming and fishing at the beach with his family, and hanging out at the campfire.

Dick was born on the family farm in Verdan OK on April 21, 1927. He married Jackie (Aschenbrenner) in their home in Portland OR in 1946. Dick saw the value in what makes a home, and trusted it would provide for himself and his family. After living in his home since 1961, it gives great pleasure to the family knowing Dick’s home will provide the same love, memories and security for others.

Dick started his career in the Navy during WWII. He worked with the Veterans Affairs and then AmVet, an organization that helps Veterans utilize their benefits. He understood the importance of taking care of others and felt privileged to be able to help.

Dick is survived by his enormous family, who will miss him dearly. They will miss his stories of slot machines and his infectious smile and laugh. The family feels honored to be a part of his 94 years of life.

A Celebration of Life will be held April 21, 2022 at Willamette National

Cemetery (11800 SE Mt Scott Blvd, Happy Valley, OR 97086) at 2:00pm. The family wishes to thank Clackamas County Fire District # 1, American Medical Response and hospice for their care of Dick.
