Philip Roberts Bogue passed away on February 18, 2018 in Portland, Oregon, his beloved home of 57 years. He was born in Seattle, Washington on December 22, 1924.  After serving as the disbursing/supply officer on the USS Harwood during World War II, he graduated from the University of Washington in 1947 and Harvard Business School in 1949. Phil worked for Arthur Andersen & Company for 32 years. After 12 years in Seattle, Phil moved to Oregon in 1961 to open the Portland office of Arthur Andersen, beginning his life-long love affair with the city. Phil also served as the broader Northwest regional partner for the firm, working with offices in Idaho, Colorado, Montana, Utah, Alaska, and Washington. Retirement from Arthur Anderson in1981 freed Phil to focus more deeply on Portland projects. He became Assistant to the President of Portland State University as well as Interim President and CEO of The Portland Art Museum. Other civic activities included being presidents of the Portland Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce, The Oregon Symphony Association, and the Regional United Way. In these roles, Phil served as a champion for downtown Portland including the renovation of Pioneer Square.  He presided over of the Board for Tri-Met and played a major role in the establishment of the light rail (“Max”) lines serving Portland, Gresham and Hillsboro. Phil was a strong advocate for The University (Portland State University), believing that every great city should have a great educational institution serving its heart. In 2017, he established the Bogue Family Choral Endowment, combining the joy he felt listening to the choirs of The University with his commitment to educational excellence in the urban setting.

Phil was married in 1951 to Suzanne Weatherly Bogue, his best friend until her death in 2008. They enjoyed spending time at their cabin on the Salmon River near Mt. Hood and on the coast near Seaview, Washington. Travels also took them to destinations in Europe, Africa, Asia, and the Americas, with Mexico and Ely, England being particular favorites. A recent cruise to Southeast Alaska with his family marked Phil’s return to Juneau for the first time since his work there on Alaska’s transition to statehood in the late fifties

Phil is survived by his son, Scott Bogue and daughter-in-law, Margi Rusmore, his daughter, Nancy Bogue, grandson Robert Rusmore Bogue, and many nieces and nephews.

It was Phil’s wish that no memorial service be held.
