Born in Akron into an «active» Italian-American family consisting of his immigrant parents and seven «sturdy» boys, the ever-academic Pete became a black sheep of sorts by being the only family member to move away, relocating his own young family to Southern California in the 1950’s to pursue a career in aerospace. While there, he and his wife Pat raised two sons and two daughters, and he earned a PhD in Applied Physics from UCLA in 1966. Somewhere along the way he discovered his true passion and calling was teaching. So in 1971 he redeemed himself with his relatives and moved his family back where he and Pat grew up. He became a career professor of mathematics at the University of Akron, retiring in 1996. Along the way, he touched many lives and made the subject of mathematics relevant to more than a few, a talent many aspire to and few achieve.
