Paul Jude Steigleder I passed away Sunday Morning Aug 14th 2016 at 9:35 am.

Paul was born in Portland Oregon May 14, 1935 to Margarite Louise and Clarence Verner Steigleder. Margarite and Clarence had six children Betty Steigleder, Evelyn Hogland, John Steigleder, Willie Tykson, Vern Steigleder and Paul Steigleder. Paul grew up in the Mt. Tabor area and graduated from Franklin High School, class of 1953. Paul Joined the Air Force January 1955 and served through November 1958. Paul meet Darlene at Play Haven Swimming pool while taking swim lessons. Darlene thought he was way too young for me, and His story is Darlene held his head underwater until he agreed to marry me. They were married May 21, 1959 at St. Henrys Catholic church Gresham Oregon. Paul Took a job with Union Pacific Railroad where he worked for 44 years.

Paul and Darlene had four children Elaine Steigleder, Paul Steigleder II, Luanne Steigleder and Nadine Dody. Paul and Darlene raised their children in Gresham Oregon and then Moved to Milwaukie Oregon in 1975. Paul and Darlene had a successful Shoe Store in Milwaukie for several years. As empty nesters in 1986 Paul and Darlene moved to Welches Oregon where they lived for 45 years. They also spent several years as snowbirds wintering in Sun City West Arizona. Paul and Darlene where blessed with six grandchildren; Paul JJ Steigleder III, Brittany L. Dody, Leif J. Steigleder, Brek J. Steigleder, Jenna L. Steigleder and Madison N. Dody. They also had eight Great Grand Children Sage Carter, Taylor Steigleder, Noah Steigleder, Isaac Steigleder, Emma Steigleder, Nolan Steigleder, Grayson Steigleder, and Lyla Steigleder. Paul and Darlene recently celebrated their 56 wedding anniversary in May.

Paul was an accomplished potter, gardener, wine enthusiast, history buff and cook. Paul took up pottery after he retired at age 70 and pick up the techniques very fast. He took great pride in his work. Paul also had a love of gardening and had vegetable gardens most years. He enjoyed history and was always ready, he was able to share his knowledge with his grandkids and supplemented their school learning. As a cook Paul is well known for his soups. He used to say that recipes are suggestions and he created master soups and other dishes that were always unique. Paul was a collector of fine wine and knew a lot about and enjoyed a good merlot or Cabernet.
Paul struggled for eight years with several different types of cancers, heart and lung issues. We called him the energizer bunny as he survived great odds and kept on going. Paul passed away surrounded by his loving wife, daughter, granddaughters, son and grandson. Paul joins his older Sister Betty, and daughters Elaine and Luanne Steigleder in Heaven.
