Surrounded by his «Steel Magnolias» Dean peacefully succumbed to lung cancer after a five year fight.

Born the 10th of 11 children; he was raised in Mosier, The Dalles and Eugene, OR.-Dean grew up following or being chased by his siblings.-The greatest day of his 9 year old life was the birth of his younger brother, Kevin in 1962.-A great love of playing basketball propelled him through school.-He graduated from The Dalles High School in 1971.-Sports remained a constant, whether he was playing or watching his son Ron and later the grandchildren play.

He retired from Atlas Copco «Wagner Mining» as a 30 year teamster.

He enjoyed his life in Boring.-Of all his travels, home was his favorite place on earth.

Dean is survived by his wife of 40 years, Kathy; son, Ronald and daughter-in-law, Tiffany; grandchildren, Joshua-(16), Alexis (9) and Haley (6); his siblings, Merna, Bob, Ron, Dennis (LaDonna), Wayne, Diann (Bob), Steve (Peggy), Debbie (Max) and Kevin Lee Cumiford; 29 nieces and nephews, 44 great and 13 great great nieces and nephews.
