Michael Duane Strutz

September 25, 1984 – August 29, 2018

Michael Duane Strutz, 33, passed away in Portland, Oregon on Wednesday, August 29.

Michael was born in Tacoma, Washington to Susan and Steven Strutz. He was the youngest of four. Michael spent his childhood growing up in the Red River Valley between North Dakota and Minnesota where he graduated from Lincoln High School in Thief River Falls, MN. He later graduated from Moorhead State with a LPN and RN degree.

In 2016, Michael left the Fargo, ND area to live with his brother in Monmouth, OR. It was in Oregon that Michael met his wife, Mei. They were married in September 2016 and lived together in Portland. They enjoyed crabbing, hunting for crayfish, and loved cooking for their friends and family. Michael loved the PNW and was constantly going on trips to the coast, visiting various hiking trails, and relaxing at hot springs.

Michael truly devoted himself to being helpful to others. It shaped his whole life, from his employment as a nurse to the great care he took in being helpful to his family. Michael was a highly respected and loved person, both because of the efforts he would go through to be helpful, and his affable nature and genuine kindness. This loving tendency lent itself well in his nursing career and life. Michael was attending school while working full time with dreams of opening his own health clinic.

He was filled with passion. He had many ambitions and spent his days doing the things he loved. Michael enjoyed playing his drums, playing games with friends, being in the outdoors, and learning about health and well being. He was most recently excited about his achievements in Olympic lifting, and his home garden.

Michael is survived by his wife Mei and her family; his mother Sue; his father Steven; sister Amanda (Ryan); brother Bobby (Juliet); and his baby niece Nova; as well as a large number of extended family members.
