We will miss the wit, wisdom and candor of Mary “Mom” Durant.-She was an inspiration of resiliency and life determination.-Her memories will include her husband, Calvin and her dear companion of many years, Allen Pew.-She was a fun loving neighbor during the childhood of Linda and Barbara.-For a number of years she brightened the day for various chosen few who were allowed to grace her home: Cindy, Kathy, the “church ladies,” her handyman, Gary, Marci Hope, and others naming a few.-Mary was a practicing Christian and had a long term membership with Holy Cross Lutheran Church.

Many family members and friends have paintings done by Mary who demonstrated a wonderful artistic talent.-She went to painting classes for many years and has friends from those classes. Mary enjoyed genealogy.-She amassed a four-drawer filing cabinet and a book shelf of genealogical research related to the Yarbrough, Tyrrell, and Durant families. Linda, is now keeper of such family research.-She was also an avid gardener.-Her appreciation of native wildflowers took her on many road trips where she was able to enjoy and photograph them in their natural surroundings.-

After some time of serious medical setbacks, Mary sold her home of 60 years and moved to Powell Valley Assisted Living and Memory Care.-Mary lived in the assisted living section for nearly a year and a half before matriculating to the memory care section.-Mary was knows as the “hello” lady.-As she motivated the hallways using her walker she called out to each passerby and room, “hello!”-She was a favorite among the caring staff.

Please share your happy thoughts with Linda and Barbara. They will appreciate your thoughtfulness in helping heal their grief.
