November 16, 1953 - March 25, 2017 Share your Memorial with Family & Friends Marilyn Louise Bastedenbeck, also known as Villeneuve, was born November 16, 1953 to Harry Charles and Dolores Elaine Bastedenbeck (Owsley) in Portland, Oregon. She spent her childhood years growing up in the Pacific Northwest, moving back and forth between the homes of both parents. Starting off as an infant in Portland, OR, and then moving to Everett, WA; then Bellingham, WA, back to Portland, OR; then back and forth again. Due to the nature of her father’s job and short-term assignments, Marilyn and her siblings went to various other locations around Oregon and Washington while growing up… even spending time at the Christy School in Lake Oswego, OR between kindergarten and first grade. Marilyn finally settled in Portland, OR in her early teen years and made it her home until she passed at age 63. Marilyn gave birth to her first son Raymond in 1971, followed by her son David in 1973, son Josh in 1975, and daughter Chantell in 1976. After a few short attempts at love, Marilyn finally met the love of her life, Rick (Richard) Plucar, in November 1986. Marilyn and Rick had two additional children together – daughter Vanessa in 1988, and son Ricky in 1991. Their unwavering love continued for the next 30+ years, until Marilyn passed. During those years, they shared their love for family, the Oregon Coast, camping, cooking, music, and the great outdoors. In her last days, their love and sacrifice for one another, although tearful, was something of a love novel. Marilyn was a strong woman of faith, applying those principles to every aspect of her life. Her favorite scripture was Psalm 23. Her smile was contagious. While fragile, her strength became the backbone of her family, even in her final days. A love for the things in life that money could not buy, Marilyn held onto every memory and enjoyed collecting antiques because of the stories that were contained in each one. She adored her grandchildren, loved the holidays, and no one ever left her home empty handed, even if it was just a small trinket or some of her wonderful cooking. She maintained her smile through every adversity in life, all the way up until her passing, when she managed to crack jokes even hours before. She was “the smile” when others around were struggling to find their own; she was the cheerleader when someone thought they couldn’t. She judged no one and was loved by anyone who came in contact with her. Upon her passing, as family gathered around and shared tears and memories, Rick shared a story of Marilyn’s love for broken seashells – “She would pick up everyone broken seashell and put it in the bag. She thought the broken ones were more beautiful than the whole ones.” This was a true reflection of who Marilyn was. No matter the flaws or brokenness of an individual, she saw everyone and everything as a whole, loving them fully for exactly who they were. She carried a card in her pocket that was found after her passing. This card describes exactly what she was not only to her children, but everyone around her – What is a Mother? She’s words that encourage, hugs that care, and hands that help When you need it the most. She’s the voice of experience, The wisdom that guides, And eyes that see the best in your always. A mom is a gift in your life. Marilyn passed away in Portland, Oregon on Saturday, March 25, 2017. She was surrounded by her loving family. Marilyn is survived by her love Rick Plucar and all her children – Ricky and fiancé Kelsey, Vanessa and husband John, Chantell, Joshua, David, and Raymond; 6 grandchildren – Ahmani, Maelah, Gabriel, John, Preston and Natasha. Marilyn is also survived by 1 sister – Gloria; 1 brother – Roy and wife Elvira; One half brother, Mark; 5 step sisters – Barbara, JoAnn, Francis, Jeannie, and Debbie; 3 step brothers – Jim, William (RIP), and John; and cousins, nieces, and nephews. Marilyn was preceded in her Heavenly homecoming by her brother Harry and sister Marcy. We will be gathering at the Barview Jetty Store lot at 1pm, located at 15530 N Hwy 101, Rockaway Beach, OR 97136. Following the ceremony and spreading of her ashes, those interested are welcome to come back to the Jetty Escape beach house for a time of reflection and appetizers.
