In the afternoon of June 17, 2015, Lois passed away of natural causes. Lois resided at an adult foster care home for the past several years. Lois was 71 years old.
Lois was born in Grants Pass, Oregon on June 22, 1943. She was the third child and first daughter of Lucy and Elton Riley. After high school, Lois graduated from Portland School of Beauty. Lois worked in several Salons in the Portland area until an accident at work ended her career. Lois moved to Cave Junction, Oregon where she found Foster Parenting. Lois was a Foster Parent for 20 years until she made her final move to Portland, Oregon.
Lois was married to Eugene Paul Nichols in 1962 until their divorce in 1971. Lois found love again when she moved to Cave Junction and married Warren Mayfield in 1993.
Lois enjoyed many things in her life, but among them was her love for the farm. Lois loved the cows! She enjoyed feeding the baby calves and watching the cows give birth. Her love for cows didn’t stop at the real ones, she also collected cow figurines.
Another love in her life was her grandchildren. She loved to sit and play with her grandchildren for hours on end. Making shrinky-dinks, play-doh, or baking cookies with them is what she loved to do. In her later years when she was unable to do those things with her grandchildren, she just loved to have them visit. She could light up the room when she saw a grandchild walk through the door!
Lois is survived by her brother Patrick Riley; her children Sam Clark and Jeff Nichols; her four grandchildren Jennifer Vanderhoof, Jeremiah Holt, Jessica Hassing and Jamie Nichols; and her 3 Great Grandchildren Meline Vanderhoof, Matthew Gates and Hannah Hassing; numerous nieces and nephews; and the rest of the extended family and friends.
Lois was preceded in death by her parents Lucy Braun and Elton Riley; as well as her brother Michael Riley.
A memorial service will be held at 4:30 PM on June 27, 2015 at Omega Funeral & Cremation Service. The service will be officiated by Chaplain John Heath from Providence Elderplace.
The family of Lois Rose would like to thank Lydia at the adult foster care home for making Lois part of their family. Lois loved being there and truly considered Lydia her close friend.
