Lois “Petie” Arlene Lestiko

December 15, 1955 – January 9, 2022

Lois “Petie” Arlene Lestiko, went home to be with her Lord Sunday Jan. 9, 2022 at Legacy Mt. Hood Medical Center in Portland, OR after complications from Dementia. She was born at Good Samaritan Hospital in Portland, OR December 15, 1955 daughter of Joseph and Florence Honig. She grew up in the Cedar Mill area.

Where does the name Petie come from you may ask? Lois’s father Joe called her “sweetie pie” when she was very young, and Lois could only repeat back “Petie pie”. Thus, her nickname stuck and was known as Petie by her close family. Lois graduated from Sunset High School in 1974 and directly went to Portland Community College to graduate with her certificate in dental assisting. She worked as a dental assistant for about 6 years. During that time, she met her spouse David Lestiko and they married on May 17, 1980. Little did they know, Mt. Saint Helens would erupt the next day! What a send-off. A few years later their only child Rebecca or “Beckie” came into the world.

Lois and David eventually moved from the West side to SE Portland. From this point forward, Lois devoted herself to being a mom and volunteer. She volunteered at her daughter’s schools where many still remember her as a “second mom” and “funny lady”. Her smile and laugh were contagious! She was a long-time member of the Altar Society Guild at St. Therese Parish and volunteered for the American Red Cross for almost 15 years. Her spouse David is a charter member of the Fords of the 50’s Car Club where Lois also became a member soon after they met and volunteered for the club at numerous events throughout their marriage.

Lois would often recall fond memories camping with her family at the Metolieus River while she grew up. She enjoyed trips to the Oregon Coast, camping at South Twin Lake in Central Oregon, listening to Oldies, attending Church each Sunday, and spending quality time with her family and grandchildren. Lois and Dave became parishioners of Our Lady of Sorrows Parish in 2007. She loved the intimate atmosphere of the church and its welcoming family.

Lois is survived by her husband of 41 years, David Lestiko; daughter, Rebecca Browning; two grandchildren Elena and Shane Flessas; two brothers Roger and Larry Honig; and one sister JoAnn Whitten. She is preceded in death by her parents Joseph and Florence Honig and sister, Christine Honig.
