Kevin Ray Hollcraft

November 14, 1973 – April 03, 2023

It is with great sadness that the family of Kevin Ray Hollcraft announces his passing on April 3, 2023, at the age of 49. Kevin left us too soon and his presence will be greatly missed.

Kevin was born, November 14, 1973 in Portland, Oregon to Sandra (McCartney) Schmidt and Phil Smith. Kevin grew up in a large, blended family. His parents, along with his stepfather, Tom Hollcraft, shared raising him in NE Portland with his two brothers, Cory and David. Kevin attended Parkrose Middle School and Parkrose High School.

Kevin married Marie (Martinez) and they had two sons, Drake and Parker. At 18, Kevin joined the Navy and while serving, he and Marie raised their family in San Diego, California. Kevin’s father, Phil also lived with their family while the boys were growing up.

Kevin had a very successful 20 year career in the Navy beginning his career as a diesel mechanic then promoted to a lead diesel repair supervisor and promoting to his final Naval position as a shipboard engineering plant program manager.

Upon retirement, Kevin attended EMSTA (Emergency Medical Education and Allied Health Programs) College and completed the EMT course. He then earned his Associates Degree in Applied Science in Fire Science from Kaplan University in 2017.

Following his retirement from the Navy, Kevin and his father, Phil moved back to Portland and settled in the Gresham area. In recent years, Kevin worked as a mechanic for a towing company and was a commercial truck driver.

Kevin was highly skilled in mechanics and had many hobbies, including his love of horses, race cars, motorcycles and collecting Hot Wheels. He had a big heart and sense of humor, always bringing laughter to those around him. Kevin also enjoyed spending time with his pit bull, Dionysus, who was his faithful companion. He cared for and loved his family and was especially proud of his sons who are also in Naval careers.

Kevin is survived by his sons, Drake and Parker (Dakota) Smith, his mother, Sandra Schmidt, his brothers, Cory and David Hollcraft, and his 6 step-siblings.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 28th, 2023 at 10 am at St. Henry Catholic Church in Gresham, Oregon and Naval honors and burial ceremony will follow at 2:30pm at Willamette National Cemetery. All are welcome to attend.
