October 30, 1961 - November 13, 2020 Share your Memorial with Family & Friends John was born to R.Q. Lusk and Ruth Anderson Lusk in Bay City, Texas on October 30, 1961. For all of his life, his birthday celebrations always included Halloween themes! As a child, he was active in Cub Scouts, the Little League and church activities at the Sixth Street Church of Christ. He graduated from Bay City High School in 1980, where he played bassoon in that Black Cat Band and was active in the speech club. After graduation he moved to Houston where he attended the University of Houston (Go Coogs!). He began a 35-year career in office administration for several different law firms. In 1997, he moved to Portland, Oregon to be nearer to his mother, brother and brother-in-law. He worked for several years at a local law firm before retiring in 2015. He was an active volunteer at Our House of Portland for over 20 years. He started as a dishwasher in the kitchen and finished his service working the reception desk and playing dominos with residents who were anxious for a small amount of attention (John gave it in buckets). He passed away unexpectedly in November 2020 leaving behind more friends than he could ever imagine who are devastated by his loss. His parents, grandparents, two aunts, an uncle, and one cousin preceded him in death. His brother, Robert Lusk, his brother-in-law, Christopher Bailey, who was also his best friend, as well as several cousins, an aunt and more friends than he ever knew, survive him. At his request, his remains are to be cremated and will be placed in his parent’s grave at a later date. A celebration of life will be planned in both Oregon and Texas, once it is safe to gather and share memories. Donations in John’s memory can be made to either Our House of Portland or the Oregon Food Bank.John D. Lusk
