Share your Memorial with Family & Friends

John died peacefully Saturday, Sept. 1st, surrounded by family, his dog, Bear and his favorite music.

John grew up in the suburbs of Chicago. He was the third of five children. John served as a Sergeant in the U.S. Army in the Vietnam War from 1968-1969. In the 1970s, John hitchhiked to Portland – just in time to sit courtside at the Memorial Coliseum to see the Blazers win the championship. He decided he loved it and never looked back. John found his greatest joy in spending time with his three daughters, his three grandchildren, and his dog. His other greatest joys included the Chicago Cubs, live music (especially Bruce Springsteen), reading the Oregonian daily, sports and beating anyone at a game of pool.

John is survived by his daughters, Lucy (Zac), Emily, and Lisa (Steven); his three grandchildren, Benjamin, Eleanor, and Jackson; his former wife, Carol; his brother, James; sister, Margie; sister-in-law, Nani; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, Mike and Dave.

Graveside service to be held at 2:30 p.m., Monday, Sept. 24, 2018, in Willamette National Cemetery. Service to be followed by a gathering at a family member’s home. All are welcome to attend both. In lieu of flowers, please watch a Chicago Cubs game.
