Jay Alan Coon

September 1, 1951 – May 6, 2019

 A Celebration of life will be held on July 14^th from 1pm to 5pm at the Canton Grill, 2610 SE 82^nd Ave., Portland, OR.

On Monday, May 6, 2019, Jay Alan Coon, loving husband, father, brother, grandson, cousin, nephew and friend passed away at the age of 67.

Jay was born in Portland, OR on September 1, 1951, the second child of William ‘Bill’ Coon and Wanda Mae Harris. He graduated from Centennial High School in 1969.

He worked for 30 years at Fred Meyer as a member of Teamsters Local 206. On July 15, 1984, he married Harriet Alexander Coon. They raised two sons, Jon and Tyler, at their home in Northeast Portland.

Jay was committed to his family and children. He was a dedicated dad, supporting his sons through challenging health issues and myriad sports activities where he served as a dependable life resource for a number of young men. He was a dedicated son, helping to care for his mother over the last several years of her life.

He enjoyed the sea, the sun, home projects, gardening, and socializing at bars near and far.

He will be remembered for his dedication, hard work, sacrifice, goodwill, and sparkling green eyes. Jay may not have fully known how much he was loved, respected, and appreciated by those whose lives he touched.

Jay was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Harriet (Alexander),  two wonderful children, Jon (Paula) and Tyler, sister Trudi and brother Terry, brother-in-law Richard Alexander and sister-in-law Jeanette Weiss, both of St Louis, MO.  His ashes will be scattered across some of his favorite places he enjoyed visiting and that gave him long-lasting memories up to the end of his life.
Donations in his memory can be shared with Doernbecher Children’s Hospital, pediatric cancer dept.
