Janice Ann Michaels

Janice Michaels, 81, of Milwaukie, Oregon, passed away, at her home, on February 11, 2018.

Janice was born in Atlantic, Iowa, on April 12, 1936. She was the daughter of Melvin and Martha Madsen.  The Madsen family moved from Iowa to Oregon when Janice was a young girl, settling in the Vanport area.  She attended Jefferson High School where she played in the band.  Janice graduated in 1954. She was also a member of Bethel #41 of The International Order of Job’s Daughters.

Janice married her high school sweetheart, Charles E. Michaels, on May 15, 1954.  Janice and Charles had two children, LaVerne D. and Russell M.  The family enjoyed camping and fishing. Charles preceded her in death in 1986.  They were married 32 years.

Janice was a homemaker while her children were young.  She later worked for the school district in the school kitchens.  In 1974 she went to work for Kaiser Permanente where she retired after 27 years of service. Some of her hobbies included reading, sewing, crocheting and traveling. Janice was a member of Rockwood Church of God, where she was involved in many church projects and activities.

Janice is survived by her daughter & son-in-law LaVerne & Don Hess, son and daughter-in-law Russ & Patti Michaels, two granddaughters Heather (Michaels) & John Sargent, Jamie (Warner) & John Robinson, ten great grandchildren; Tori, Catrina, Kursten & Ryder Michaels, MaKenna & Noah Sargent and John, Aubrie, Chloe & Savannah Robinson, other family members and friends.

Janice is preceded in death by her husband Charles Michaels and grandson Christopher Michaels.

The funeral service will be held at 3:00 pm on Friday, February 16, 2018 at Rockwood Church of God with Pastor Val Bender officiating.  There will be a private burial at Lincoln Memorial Cemetery.  Funeral arrangements are being handled by Omega Funeral & Cremation Service, 223 SE 122^nd Ave. Portland, Or.
