November 10, 1947 - July 1, 2020 Share your Memorial with Family & Friends Jim was born in Portland Oregon to Dr. Alfred and Norma Grierson. After graduating from Jesuit High School (class of ’66) he joined the US Coast Guard Reserves and worked for United Airlines. He owned the “Hide-Away-Tavern” from ’73 – ’77 and later worked at a Portland ship repair company as a Marine Carpenter for almost 30 years. Jim is survived by his 10 siblings, Norma, Nancy, Mike, Greg, Ann, Larry, Maureen, Patrick, Virginia, Molly, 26 nieces and nephews and 21 great nieces and nephews. Jim was a wonderful brother, son, uncle and friend who was very generous and accepting of everyone. He loved his rustic oasis on the Sandy River where family and friends dropped by to fish, enjoy a beer, listen to some music, have a “chit-chat” as he would say, or just enjoy the beautiful river view with him. Anyone who knew Jim would say his humor was endless, laugh was contagious and the stories he would tell could make anyone feel in the moment. One of his classic sayings was “don’t lose your sense of humor,” and he most definitely never did. He enjoyed sharing many other memorable expressions with anyone he’d meet and was always sure to give them a good chuckle or sometimes a scratch on the head. Jim had a big heart, especially for his many special dogs throughout the years. From swimming in the river with them and playing fetch, to taking hundreds of pictures, Jim loved his dogs; they were his kids. He was athletic and kept active through the years playing handball each Wednesday with his father, wushu, photography, playing pool, swimming, fishing and so much more. The friendships and love he shared will never be forgotten. He was truly one-of-a-kind and his memory will be cherished. A Celebration of Life event for Jim will be announced at a later date.
