Fred Kirste

Born in Los Angeles California February 13, 1930. Fred was one of five children; parents were John and Grace (Herman). After graduating from high school he worked in several different trades, one of which was local politics as mayor of Kernville CA (1968).

His real interest was in gardening and took great pride in his knowledge of plants. He had a passion for reading and took a deep interest in people, especially those that struggled with substance abuse.

He donated much of his time and resources helping people with AIDS and spending many hours doing whatever he could to make life easier to manage. He enjoyed the company of several different pets over the years (more recently Alex) and truly made great friends, especially in the Portland area.

He has one son and became very active in his life. Fred is survived by his son Larry (Susan) and several grandchildren and great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Kathy (Vernon); three brothers, John, George and Richard predeceased him.

He has many good friends in the Portland area and two very special friends, Del and Mike. No services will be held at Fred’s request. In lieu of flowers, donations to any animal shelter are encouraged.
