Edie was born in Kelso, Washington May 26, 1926.  She was the second child to Mercy and Hugh Ingram.  She passed away on January 14, 2017 in Portland, Oregon.

Edie grew up tough with an older brother breathing down her neck. She had three children: Terry, Sandy and Bob before moving to Longview and finaly to Portland. She was a fighter, a strong personality always ready with a joke and a smile, braving all manner of dangers, even becoming a pilot of both fixed-wing airplanes and gliders.

In 1972 Edie did not have it so easy! Her son nearly lost her in the Caribbean when he urged her to jump into the midnight waters – only to land on a Portuguese Man-O-War. However, her daughter Sandy was there to rescue her!

A few years later she escaped into the arms of the ever-charming Dale Cochran, who she married in Portland in 1974. Dale immediately assumed the role of THE PROTECTOR, by nearly losing her on their Hawaiian honeymoon. They were sliding down the rapids of Waiakea Falls when she disappeared underwater and nearly drowned. However, being the strong-willed person that we all knew her to be, she re-bounded and was saved by strong hands!

Edie’s and Dale’s marriage was the beginning of fun, frolic and metaphorical dancing through the streets of every city, everywhere, every year. It was indeed a “Romance for the Ages” as they travelled far and wide, experiencing many countries and cultures.

In 1978 she celebrated the New Year by dancing with her new grandson, Kuy Thurman, in Australia. In 1979-80-86 during their three trips to China they visited Xi’an where the terra-cotta warriors were discovered and strolled along the Great Wall of China. Later Edie nearly fell off of a camel! In 1984 they toasted the universe while straddling the equator in Africa.

Edie was a master of impeccable timing! In 1989 she and Dale travelled with their good friends, Darcelle XV and company, to Europe, zigzagging through several countries and arriving in Berlin just as the Berlin Wall came tumbling down. A piece of the Wall now graces their walls.

In 2000 Edie and Dale met their son, Bob, and his daughter, Robin, in Cairo for an Egyptian cruise down the Nile. However, Dale unfortunately popped out his hip and spent two nights in an Egyptian hospital!

Dear Edie I loved you at first sight and that love burns brightly with every passing second. You are the most beautiful and engaging person on earth. From our first date and to this very day for every meal I light candles to celebrate our time together. Love, Dale

Mom, you were always lovely, both in spirit and in the physical sense. I remember you coloring our eyebrows when we three kids were about eight years old, because we were so blond that, “Nobody can see them!”

The taste of soap still lingers in my mouth after I said a crude word! [I was about 8 years old, and to this day I still don’t know what I said.]

You were always there with a smile – and a bandaid.

You showed us kids how to skip rope – and fell down in the process!

You showed me how to color the world, shading crayons into a wild rainbow of fun and love. I am a better and stronger person because of you. I thank you from the bottom of my heart. Love, Bob

Edie is survived by her loving husband of 42 years, Dale Cochran, and her three children: Terry Denison, Sandy Holloway and Bob Thurman.

My beautiful, funny, charming Mother winged her way to heaven Jan 26th. Edie (mom) was my rock, safe port in the storm of life, my champion, Mom taught how to jump rope (skinned knees & all) One day we 3 kids brought our friends & asked Mom to show us how to do the dance she did as a young lady (HA HA !) on us The dance was the minute dance.
Mom you are always in my heart & I look toward the day when we meet at the end on the Rainbow Bridge.
Love Always, Your Daughter Terry
