January 13, 1937 - September 16, 2015 Share your Memorial with Family & Friends Durelle is survived by her four children: Dan (Elizabeth) Armstrong of Beaverton, Oregon; Jerry (Tammy) Armstrong of Molalla, Oregon; Julie Armstrong of Los Angeles, California; and Owen (Sandra) Armstrong of Portland, Oregon; also 15 beloved grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Carl Danielson. A Memorial Service to celebrate Durelle’s life will be held October 24, 2015, 11:00 a.m. at the Happy Valley Evangelical Church, 10601 SE 129TH Ave, Happy Valley, OR 97086. Bring a memory of Durelle to share and enjoy visiting with her friends and family. A reception will be held following remembrances. Durelle Jean Armstrong died peacefully of natural causes on September 16, 2015 in Portland, OR at the age of 78. Born Durelle Danielson to Nelda (Baker) and Howard Danielson in Tucson, AZ on January 13, 1937, she grew up in Tucson, graduated from Tucson High School and received her B.S. in microbiology from the University of Arizona. Durelle was married to Roy L. Armstrong from 1954-1986, they lived in Tucson until 1969 when they moved their family to Portland. A longtime member of the Missionary Alliance Church, Durelle’s faith and love of family, friends and community were among her greatest joys. She was very active in all her childrens’ lives as bible study leader, vacation bible school teacher, Sunday School teacher, small group leader, Indian Guides parent. She was also an accomplished pianist after learning to play as an adult, and she took great pleasure in playing for her church and other organizations over the years. Durelle also completed a certification in medical technology and most recently worked with Oregon Hematology and Oncology Associates in Portland before her retirement. Before her mother Nelda’s death in 2007 Durelle and Nelda embarked on many adventures together, exploring their beloved desert country and travelling extensively. Nelda always said that she was «spending her children’s inheritance with them!» They shared a great love for the outdoors and found many creative ways to enjoy it together over the years.
