Donald W. Manthey

July 4, 1923 – February 14, 2021

Donald W. Manthey was born on July 4, 1923 in Green Bay, Wisconsin and raised in Portland, Oregon.  He attended Lents Elementary School and Franklin High School going into the service in 1940.  He served the duration of WWII aboard the battleship USS Neveda (BB36), participating in five major invasions.

After WWII he served as a firefighter from 1946 to 1979 for the Portland Fire Bureau.

He married Victoria Misetich in 1947 having two children.  After her death in 1964 he married Donna Rethwich in 1969 having two children.

He is preceded in death by his son Michael John Manthey.  He leaves Donna Manthey, Lori Byers, Dana Tallman, Don C Manthey, five grandsons and three great grandchildren.

His graveside services will be held at a later date at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland, Oregon.
