Donald David Lestiko

August 26, 1923 – July 03, 2020

Don Lestiko passed away at his home residence in Portland, Oregon on July 3rd, 2020  Don is survived by his brother Fred Leistiko of Cove Oregon, his children David Lestiko, Sandy Mason, Patty Kinyon and Jenny Lestiko-Johnson.  Also including 6 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Don was born in Portland, Oregon in 1923 by his parents Fred and Lena Leistiko.  He graduated from Franklin High School in Portland then enlisted in the United States Army armed forces.  Don spent 2.5 years during his WWII military enlistment.  He was stationed in England and spent time in France.  He earned his military honors becoming a staff sergeant and became a member of the military police.

After returning back home from WWII, he met Helen Collias.  They were married on July 16th 1949.  They lived a happy 57 years together until the end of Helen’s life in January of 2007.

Don worked for Franz Bakery as a diesel mechanic for 37 years until his retirement.  All of his children were grateful for having a mechanic as a father to help us out with vehicle issues and even his grandchildren would ask for his help and mechanical knowledge.

Don loved motorcycles.  He and his wife Helen were members of the Portland Sidewinders for many years.  Don helped build bleachers and also had the honor of being pit boss for 2 years.

Don and his wife Helen were avid outdoorsmen.  They loved to fish and hunt. Don’s family would spend 2 weeks a year with uncles, aunts and cousins that included 1 week in the fall hunting in eastern Oregon and 1 week in the summer fishing at East Lake in Central Oregon.  What great times we would have all being together!

Don was quite a character and would not hesitate to tell you what he really thought about anything or anyone.  All of the family loved him.  He will truly be missed.

Don is preceded in death by his wife Helen and daughter Susan, brothers Bill and Walter (Fuzzy).
