DARLENE ELIZABETH (BALL) ROBINETT

Darlene passed in her home with family by her side on October 2, 2018 at the age of 76.  Darlene was born on July 1, 1942 to the parents of Merrill Rodney Ball and Lillian “Irene” (Nystrom) Ball of Lake Grove, Oregon.  Darlene was the oldest of 5 children, 1 sister and 3 brothers. She leaves behind her son, Randy Jossy (Peggy) of Portland Oregon; Daughter, Rhonda (Sis) Lamb (Vance) of Camino Island, Washington; 10 Grandchildren, 8 Great Grandchildren, 3 siblings and their spouses, many nieces and nephews.  Darlene also has a Barber Shop in the Kenton District which was her daily life’s passion “7 BUCKS-A-WACK” tied her to the community she loved.  Her family, friends and customers were her life.

Darlene attended Lake Grove Elementary School and Lake Oswego High School.  She married Henry James Jossy of Sherwood Oregon on June21, 1959.  Soon after moving to upper Lake Grove she gave birth to her son Randy in January 1960. In April 1961 she gave birth of her daughter Rhonda.  The Family then moved to Lake Oswego.  In January 1963 her son Ronnie was born.  In 1966 the family moved to South East Portland.  Darlene kept very busy being a good Mom and Wife, as the kids began school and there became a few spare hours she started to sell Avon and 1 day a week she was on a bowling league.  In 1970 eager to start a career Darlene attended Montevilla Beauty College where she graduated as a Cosmetologist – Haircuts, Styles and Perms and she loved it.  In 1974 Darlene and Henry Divorced.  She then moved to the Burien/Seattle area where she lived with her brother Gary for a short time.  She worked in various Beauty Shops and in 1978 she married Larry Postal and moved to Bothell Washington and became a Step Mom to his children (Jerry and Sherry) then, through friends she began to drive a Pilot Truck for Mobil Home deliveries through Washington, Oregon and Idaho money was good, plus it was a change of pace. This put her on the road again, sometimes working both jobs.  Darlene was one to keep busy, but sadly in 1989 she and Larry divorced.  Later in 1989 she was married again to John Andrew Robinett, moving to Lynwood Washington and during this time she was still driving the Pilot Truck and working Beauty Shops and Barbering.  John worked at Todd Ship Yards and he was able to get Darlene a job in the Tool Crib – more money and they could ride back and forth to work together, benefits and retirement, she was in.  As best of plans, sometimes don’t work out, the Ship Yard dried up 4 ½ years in.

Darlene went back to doing what she loved, cutting hair, perms and styles.  Once again in 1996 troubled times returned and Darlene and John Divorced.  It was during this time that Darlene’s Mom “Irene” passed, leaving her with lost feelings she decided to take the money her Mom left to her and make her Mom proud, she purchased a Barber Shop Business.  She hung a picture on the wall of her Mom and named the Barber Shop “7 Bucks-A-Wack” and went to wacking – mostly 6 days a week until her health wouldn’t allow.  She loved working at her shop, she lived for her customers and friends she met through the Barber shop.  She even went to their homes to do Mobil cuts for some of her older customers who obtained health issues.  That is who she was – often customers would say hey, Darlene I really need a haircut but I’m short on funds, she would say well sit down in my chair, you can get it next time or you can walk my dog for me.  She had her side kick “Elvis” by her side – people would come by to see her and her dog “Elvis” even if they didn’t need a haircut.  A few of her customers would come from as far as Astoria, Oregon, Woodland, Washington, Yakima, Washington and Lake Oswego, Oregon.  That is just the ones that come to mind.  Darlene was a socialite who could make conversation with anyone and probably worked as hard as anyone to get to keep what she had.  When she wasn’t working at her shop she enjoyed socializing at the local Pub’s and Eatery’s, she enjoyed shuffle board, pool, card games, cribbage and loved the outdoors.

Darlene spend a large part of her life gathered at her Fawn Lake property with friends and family – she loved fishing off her dock, BBQ’s, campfires and being a wonderful Grandma.  She taught her grandkids everything from going potty on the toilet, dying Easter eggs, swimming, using the paddle boat, sunbathing, she even showed them how to drive a car and cook just to mention a few.  Darlene didn’t mind getting dirty.   She enjoyed hunting, riding horses in the Eagle Caps, clam digging, crabbing, salmon fishing, smelt fishing and she was an awesome cook.

Darlene also loved music of all kinds and enjoyed going to concerts.  Let’s not forget her love for the water, she lived on a House Boat in Jantzen Beach, Oregon where she enjoyed tending to her flowers, she enjoyed having great BBQ’s and drinks with friends and neighbors.

Darlene was a unique individual not always right but if she thought she was look out – she would say what was on her mind.  Darlene was a wonderful person and loved by so many. She  gave many the benefit of the doubt which sometimes didn’t work to her benefit, she always tried to believe in people she knew.

Darlene will always be remembered and loved by the ones that knew her.

Darlene was preceded in death by her parents Merrill  & Lillian “Irene” Ball; Son:  Ronnie M. Jossy; Sibling:  Richard “Dick” Ball and Grandson: Randolph (Little Randy) Jossy.
