Daniel H. Nelson, 57, May 11, 1958 ‰ÛÒ February 12, 2016. Memorial service at Stone Tower SDA Church, 3010 NE Holladay St, Portland, OR 4:00 pm, February 20, 2016. Daniel was born to Beverly I. Bain and Daniel N. Nelson in Springfield, MO. He grew up in Nebraska and Kansas, South Carolina and Washington. Daniel is a graduate of Yelm High School and Central Washington University.

Daniel started working for Portland Public Schools in 1982. Daniel also received his Masters in Special Education from Portland State University. While teaching in Portland he met Joann House and they were married in 1990. In 1992 Daniel taught at Walla Walla University (WWU) for 7 years. While living in College Place, a daughter, Elizabeth was born. Daniel then attended Andrews University and received his Masters of Divinity.

Moving to Boise, Idaho, Daniel worked in airport security and as a part time pastor in Mountain Home. Most recently, he pastored the Miles City, Custer and Hardin Seventh-day Adventist churches for 3 years in eastern Montana. He loved to be around airplanes and took flying lessons while working at WWU. He loved photography and nature. He also spent many hours reading.

Daniel was diagnosed with colon cancer, Feb. 2, 2015 and fought valiantly until the end.

Daniel is survived by wife Joann Nelson and daughter Elizabeth of Portland, father Daniel Nelson of Tucson, AZ, sisters Linda Shepherd of Ladson, SC and Carolyn Lister of Pipe Creek, TX, brother, David Levay of San Antonio, TX.
