Clyde Richard Ebert

February 6, 1930 – August 24, 2018

Dick Ebert died peacefully at home in Portland, Oregon on August 24, 2018 surrounded by family. His Christian faith was central to his life and he looked forward to reuniting in heaven with family and friends that had gone on before.

Dick was born Feb 6, 1930 in San Bernardino, Ca. to Sheldon and Hazel Ebert. He was younger brother to Chuck and older brother to Barbara. Dick graduated from Lincoln High School in San Jose in 1947 and served his country from 1947 to 1952 as a member of the Marine Corps reserve and an active duty Marine in Korea 1950-1951. After his military service he concentrated on career and family, but after retirement and a move to Portland became active in the Oregon/Columbia River chapter of the 1st Marine Division Association and the Oregon Trail chapter of the Korean War Veterans Association. Dick enjoyed participating in visits to area high schools to share stories with students about his service in Korea. He was very proud to be a Marine veteran and treasured his friendships with other local veterans.

Dick started his family and career in San Jose after his military service. An early marriage produced his beloved first-born son Fred. Later, Dick met Shirlee through friends at their church and they married in 1957. Dick and Shirlee had three children, Cynthia, Chris, and Brian. In 2017 Dick and Shirlee celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary and had been married for 61 years at the time of his death.

Dick’s passion from an early age was art and design and in the early 1960’s he left a career in banking to be his own boss in the field he loved. He was extremely creative and was involved in many aspects of design over the years, including decorating model home interiors, opening various gift shops, and owning a fine art gallery. Dick nurtured, supported and promoted the careers of many artists and designers and worked hard and with integrity to invest in their growth and success.

Dick felt his life was blessed by God and by his friends. He will be missed by many people.

Dick is survived by his devoted wife Shirlee, sons Fred (Leslie), Chris (Jason), and Brian, daughter Cynthia (Denise) and his grandchildren Jessica (Bryce), Aaron, Haley, and Jenna. He is also survived by his beloved sister Barbara Westbrook and her family.

A memorial service to celebrate Dick’s life will be held September 7, 2018 10 AM at Kenilworth Presbyterian Church located at 4028 SE 34th Ave, Portland, OR. CLICK HERE FOR DIRECTIONS
