Carl Lee Grenawalt

February 18, 1949 – February 22, 2021

Carl Lee Grenawalt, 71, of Portland, Oregon, passed away on February 16, 2021. He passed away peacefully at home of natural causes.

Carl was born in Portland, Oregon to Clifford Lafayette and Mildred (Reeves) Grenawalt on February 18, 1949. He grew up the youngest of five siblings. In his early life he was a boy scout.

Carl enlisted in the United States Marine Corp in 1968 where he served for one year before acquiring a service-connected disability. He went on to work in maintenance for the Department of Veteran Affairs. He was proud of his service and affiliation with the Marine Corp and Veteran Affairs.

His hobbies included collecting and fixing old gadgets, feeding squirrels and wildlife, fishing, traveling around Portland and the surrounding area, and he was a gambler. Carl struck good fortune twice with big winnings from the Oregon Lottery. He also spent time socializing with his neighbors and patrons at his local bar.

One of Carl’s greatest accomplishments was being a father. Carl adored his three children, Nicole, Teresa, and Jeff. His children remember the wild stories he would share about the time he saw Big Foot or how the scar on his leg was from the bite of a dragon. Carl’s imagination is a quality to be admired. His children have fond memories of trips with Dad to Mt. Hood, the Oregon Coast, and the house with a “time machine”. His children hope he will be remembered for his sense of humor, generosity, and friendly and gregarious nature.

Carl is survived by his three children, Nicole Lynn Bolds, Teresa Ann Grenawalt, and Jeffery Lee Grenawalt; and four grandchildren. He is also survived by his two sisters, Leona (Grenawalt) Todd and Linda (Grenawalt) Powers.

Carl will be laid to rest at the Willamette National Cemetery in Portland, Oregon. A graveside service will be held on Monday, March 1, 2021 at 2:00pm at the Willamette National Cemetery at 11800 SE Mt. Scott Blvd, Portland, OR. His family will be present to welcome loved ones.

The family asks that any donations made in Carl’s honor go toward a veteran serving organization.
