Elizabeth “Betty” Holden-Allen March 27, 1926 – December 31, 2018

Our shining star Betty Holden-Allen passed away peacefully at her daughter’s home on December 31, 2018. Although Alzheimers robbed her of precious memories, she had a full and wonderful life. Betty was born on March 27, 1926 to Charles and Lilly Bush. She attended Laurelhurst Grade School, Washington High School (class of 1944), and Oregon State College.

Betty married Donald F. Holden Jr. in 1947 and raised three children. Later she worked for the Multnomah County Treasury Dept. Betty loved the camaraderie, ritual, and philanthropy of the fraternal organizations she belonged to. In the Order of Amaranth, she was the Royal Matron of Christina Court in 1962 and the Grand Royal Matron of Oregon in 1981-82. She was a Past Worthy High Priestess of Oregon White Shrine, a member of Friendship Eastern Star, and a member of the Daughters of the Nile. Betty volunteered frequently, whether she was embroidering quilts for hospital children or working at the Albertina Kerr gift shop. Betty loved animals, flowers, and bridge club. Her collection of Betty Boop memorabilia was displayed in virtually every inch of her home bringing smiles to her family, friends and guests.

She will be dearly missed by all who knew her. Betty is survived by her children, Donald Holden III (Lorette), Douglas Holden (Nancy), and Delores Glynn (Bill Brown). She is also survived by her nine grandchildren, Donald IV, Rachel, Oriana, Austin, Cody, Clayton, Amanda, Madelaine, and Robert. In 1999, she married the love of her life, Thomas Allen. He predeceased Betty in 2002.

A celebration of life will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday January 19th at the Omega Funeral Parlor. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to the Amaranth Diabetes Foundation.
