William “Mike” Michael Slama

January 21, 1949 – August 20, 2023

William “Mike” Michael Slama, 74 of Mt. Angel, Oregon peacefully joined his wife Sharon on Sunday morning August 20th 2023 in Oregon City, Oregon.

Mike was born on January 21 1949 in Portland, Oregon to Jacqueline and William Slama, he was the oldest son of five siblings (1 brother and 3 sisters).

Mike grew up in Portland Oregon, graduated from David Douglas High School in 1967 and left in 1968 for boot camp for the United States Navy where he was in active duty until 1972. Mike was first stationed on the USS Arlington (AGMR-2) then the USS Wiltsie (DD-716) where he served with the Navy during the Vietnam War. Mike received the National Defense Service Medal and Vietnam Service Medal, Mike was a very proud U.S. Veteran Navy Sailor, he proudly waved the American Flag in his front yard for his fellow veterans he served with, lost and those who were MIA.

After his time in the Navy Mike worked as a Welder/Machinist at Hyster and Northwest Industrial Services.

Mike was an avid fisherman, hunter and loved the coast – you would often find him on the ocean waters crabbing, fishing for tuna, the river on a boat or river bank during Salmon season, in the duck blinds or bushes hiding from deer during hunting season. If you were able to join Mike on any of these adventures that he so loved, you know how much he loved being in the great outdoors with you there by his side to share that day with him and let’s face it to be teased endlessly.

Mike was quiet but loved to tease everyone, he was a loving Husband, Father and Grandfather, and will be missed by many family members and friends.

Mike is survived by his faithful companion Bandit Pandit, Sons: Mikeal and Randolph (Jen), Daughter: SallyDay (Berkley), Step-daughters: Lisa (Ross) and Margaret (Rick), Grandchildren: Zackary, Berkley III, Allie, Andrew, Adrianne, Daniel, Hannah, Gabriel, Elisha.

Mike was preceded in death by his Wife Sharon, Father William, Mother Jaqcueline, Brother David and Sister Mary.

A service will be held at Willamette National Cemetery on September 22, 2023 at 3pm with a gathering at Lents Masonic Lodge to spend time sharing memories and stories about Mike. Dress in your favorite Hawaiian shirt, fishing hat, or your Military best when we honor Mike.
