Susan Mary Crosby

1943 – 2021

Susan Mary Crosby of Portland, Oregon, passed away peacefully at home January 18, 2021, at the age of 77 after a 15 year battle with Alzheimer’s. She was surrounded by her family, including her loving husband, Gary. A cancer survivor as well, Sue was 77 years old. She and Gary were to celebrate their 52nd wedding anniversary a week after her passing.

Sue was born in 1943 in Portland, to Arthur Alvin Bloom and Wanda Ann Bloom. She was one of eight children and was a twin to her brother, Steven. She graduated from Marycrest High School in Portland, after which she began her professional career at Pacific NW Bell Telephone. It was there that she met many of her lifelong friends and traveling companions. After taking time to raise her family she worked as an office assistant at Ladd Wholesale Meat Company and Beverly Cleary Elementary School.

Sue was an active parishioner at the Madeleine for 42 years. She volunteered in a variety of capacities for both the Parish and the Elementary School while her children were in attendance. It was through her faith that she was called to take an active role in serving her community. She was a Girl Scout Troop leader, served as coordinator for many fundraisers, and volunteered with local civic groups.

Family and friends were paramount for Sue. She and Gary would host them at their home at Black Butte Ranch in Central Oregon where many wonderful memories were made. They even opened their home to host 7 foreign exchange students from France, Germany, Spain, Brazil and Poland; many of which are in contact today.

Sue loved to travel and took numerous trips with family and friends. She often traveled with her five sisters and her Aunt Laura.

Sue is survived by her husband, Gary D. Crosby of Portland; daughter Kimberly Clocksin and her husband, Brian, and their children, Lilka and Michael, of Claremont, California; and son Kevin, his wife, Darlene, and their children, McKenzie, Dorlene, Shawna and Jessie, of Portland.

She is also survived by her sister Judy Wilkey; twin brother Steven Bloom; sisters Kathy Coke, Laurie Hayden, Barbara Mills, and Terry Carty. She was preceded in death by her brother Michael.

A private burial will take place at Mt. Calvary, where Sue will rest peacefully near her father, mother and brother. A memorial service will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial donation may be made to the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America, 322 8th Ave, New York, NY10001; and the Madeleine Parish, 3123 NE 24th Ave, Portland, OR 97212. The family wishes to thank the Alzheimer’s Madeleine Men’s Caregiver Group and the Providence Hospital Hospice staff for their caring and loving support.
