Solomon Campos

July 31, 1992 – January 17, 2023

Solomon Campos (30) passed away from a ruptured colon around 10:50 am on January 17th, 2023 in his Portland home. He is survived by his wife of 6 years, Hannah Campos, his 1.5 year old toddler, Eisele Yona Campos, and ‘the handsome’ cat Balu. In June of 2022, Solomon was diagnosed with cancer, but lived out his final year with celebration, joy, and dignity. In his last week, Solomon was able to say his goodbyes to his church community, friends, and be loved and cared for by his family. In his last moments, his wife and sister sat at his bedside looking through his childhood photos, laughing together as his wife read outloud a rap they had found that he wrote as a child– it was in this moment of laughter that Solomon felt ready to go home. 

Solomon was born on July 31st, 1992 at OHSU in Portland, Oregon. He was the son of Rocina and Higinio Campos, and older brother to sister Mandee Campos. His last place of employment was at the Hillsboro School District where he worked as a teaching aid. In his final years, Solomon left his work to pursue higher education. He enrolled and attended Portland Community College, and then transferred to Portland State University. He was looking forward to a career in marriage and family counseling. He adored working with children and family meant the world to him. He looked forward to helping families restore broken relationships and build healthy ones. Even as a child, Solomon knew with an unwavering certainty that he wanted to be married and be a loving and involved father to several children. He did this by marrying Hannah, the love of his life, on August 3rd, 2016 at the Troutdale House by the Sandy River. He achieved his dream of creating a family when his daughter Eisele was born on their 5th wedding anniversary. Solomon adored Eisele with his whole heart.

In his childhood, Solomon took up an interest in video games, movies, and comics – these interests followed him into adulthood. He connected with his friends and relatives through gaming, movies, and attending all Marvel premieres with his family. He grew an impressive collection of comic figures and memorabilia, and he and his wife enjoyed trips to Disneyland and comic con. Solomon’s passion was music and collecting vinyl records. When Solomon discovered metal music, it inspired him to learn how to play the guitar. Solomon wrote many songs and played more than a few shows. A particularly proud moment was being able to open for Matt and Toby and The Classic Crime in March of 2018. Church was another one of Solomon’s passions. Solomon loved Jesus and had deep, inspirational faith. He loved church and getting to be a part of a community that genuinely seeks to love others. He and his wife served and opened up their home for church groups and other community activities. Solomon strived to make others feel seen, heard, and valued, and church was one of the many places where he got to show this. Before passing, he was an active member at The Rose Church where he grew many beautiful friendships and found deep community.

His surviving family is thankful to the community of family and friends who have dropped off meals, supplies, and/or given financial gifts. The Campos family would like to share how grateful we are for The Rose Church and Pastor Andrew. Thank you for sitting by us through the thick and thin, and for supporting us no matter how big the ask. We are so thankful to be left in the care of such a supportive and caring community. We would also like to thank Hannah’s cousin, Lori, for coming over for night shifts during Solomon’s hospice care so family members could get some rest. Finally, we want to give a huge thank you to our neighbors, Josh and Gianna of Raye of Sunshine Adult Foster Home, who were an essential part of Solomon’s comfort care– we are humbled by your help and kindness with Solomon in ensuring he was as comfortable as possible. You are the embodiment of what it means to love your neighbor. 

Solomon’s Memorial Service will be open to all who loved him and wish to celebrate his life. The service will take place on February 3rd, 2023 at 2pm at The Rose Church which is located at 3212 SE Ankeny St, Portland, OR 97214. He will rest in the Lone Fir Cemetery in Portland, Oregon.
