SHIRLEY JEAN HILTON

February 12, 1938 – January 22, 2026

Shirley Jean Hilton was born on February 12, 1938, in Morton, Washington, to Bessie and Clifford Hilton.  She graduated from Morton High School and went on to build a life defined by independence, dedication, and love for her family.

Shirley passed away peacefully in her home on January 22, 2026, in Gresham, Oregon surrounded by her children. She was blessed to be able to live out her life at home, made possible by the loving care and support of her son, who lived with her during the last five and a half years of her life.

Throughout her life, Shirley was married twice and devoted herself to raising her two children, Rhonda and Brian.  She worked in many secretarial positions over the years and later retired at age 71 from Indian Health Service, where she served as a budget analyst.

Shirley had many interests and was known for enjoying shopping, reading mystery novels, collecting quilts and baking incredible homemade pies that family and friends looked forward to.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, Bessie and Clifford Hilton, and her brother, Bill Hilton.

Shirley leaves behind her two children, Rhonda (Vince) Herschell, Brian Thayer; three grandchildren, Rebecca (Tony) Capparelli, Paul (Julie) Herschell, Sarah (Brandon) Borges-Silva. She was a proud Grandma Great to six; Eliana Capparelli, Isaac Capparelli, Allison Herschell, Parker Herschell, Bella Borges-Silva and Ava Borges-Silva.  She also leaves behind her beloved dog, Riley.

Shirley will be laid to rest in Morton City Cemetery beside her parents and brother.  A small family graveside dedication will be held.

Shirley will be remembered for her strong spirit, her love of family, and the simple joys she cherished throughout life.
