Remembering Bob Hodges

9/21/54-11/29/23

As a kid, growing up in Batavia, Illinois, Bob loved the Cubs and the Bears and saw his first Who concert, one of his life long favorite bands (along with Tower of Power, Grateful Dead and Jimmy Buffett and so many more).  When he moved to Colorado he got the nickname of “Smokin’ Bob” (for skiing?) which started his career as a chef.  When he moved to Key West, he became known as “Captain-Chef Bob”.  He took us on culinary adventures aboard our 44’ Freedom sailboat “Cayenne” in Biscayne Bay, the Bahamas, the Florida Keys, even Mexico.

In the Gorge, he earned another nickname as “Bicycle Bob”.  We gathered around him for feasts, music, bicycle tours and skiing adventures.

When Bob was young and wild, his mom asked him what he wanted to be when he grew up; he replied, ”happy”.

Bob’s was a life well lived.

He departed his earthly vessel peacefully in his sleep.

He touched us all and now we share him with the universe.

Thank you to the caring staff at Hood River Care Center.
