Robert “Bob” George Fligg

October 26, 1948 – February 19, 2025

Robert “Bob” George Fligg, of Wood Village, Oregon died on February 19, 2025.  Bob  passed away peacefully and comfortably at home attended by wife, Eileen and sister, Diane. Bob led an active and fulfilling life until a few weeks before his passing.

Bob was born on October 26,1948 along with twin brother, Raymond.  Bob and Ray were born to James and Alma Fligg in Chicago, Illinois, and joined four older sisters.  When the twins were three months old, their father died suddenly and the children were raised by their mother.  Despite this event, Bob and his siblings were raised in a stable and loving environment.

Bob was introduced to Oregon by Eileen’s Uncle Bruce who thought rural Oregon might be a good experience for a boy from inner-city Chicago.  Bob spent summers in Oregon on Eileen’s grandparents’ farm during high school and fell in love with Oregon.  When it came time for college, Bob stayed in Oregon and enrolled at Portland State University and he and Eileen started dating.   His college was interrupted by a few months active duty in the Oregon National Guard, and Bob served in the Guard for seven years.  After active duty, Bob and Eileen married, on September 26, 1970.  Bob and Eileen were married 54 years and welcomed Justin Robert in 1979 and Julie Diane in 1982.  Bob enjoyed being a family man and spent the time when the children were growing playing with them, enjoying their activities, hiking, camping, and sharing other outdoor activities.

Bob graduated from PSU in 1971.  He passed the CPA exam in 1979.  Most of his professional career was spent as a Financial Officer in various businesses in the Portland area and Hood River.  For the last 20 years he worked for the Al Angelo Company of Vancouver, Washington.  Bob retired at the end of 2021 at age of 73.

Bob was an outdoorsman.  He enjoyed hunting, both Elk and Deer.  He went on several special hunting trips, one of the last was a moose hunt in Canada.  He also enjoyed fishing.  He enjoyed camping trips with family and later with a large group of friends.

Bob embodied the values of Faith, Family and Friends.  Bob was close to Eileen’s family; Eileen joked that he was more a part of her family than she was.  Despite the distance, he stayed close to his family also; visiting in Illinois and Oregon and taking vacations together.   He recently enjoyed the addition of grandchildren and loved being Grandpa.  He was described as “an all-around great guy.”

Bob was a life-long Lutheran and a 46-year member of Christ the Vine Lutheran in Damascus.  Bob was involved in many activities and positions in the church and was a faithful attendee in worship.  His faith was evident and a great comfort for Bob and his family.

Bob is survived by his wife, Eileen (Engel) Fligg, his son Justin Fligg, his daughter, Julie Benning (Brandon), grandchildren Evan, Charlotte, and Ashton Benning, and two sisters Diane Perrone and Leah Johnson and several nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents James and Alma (Hardtke) Fligg, sisters Janet Wilson and Judy Carlson and brother Raymond Fligg.

The Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 am on March 15, 2025 at Christ the Vine Lutheran, 18677 S E Hwy. 212, in Damascus, Oregon 97089, followed by a luncheon at the church.  There will be a private internment at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church Cemetery in Sherwood, Oregon on March 14.  Arrangements are being handled by Omega Funeral and Cremation Service.
