December 29, 1976 - April 24, 2025 Share your Memorial with Family & Friends On Thursday, April 24, 2025, the single greatest human the world has ever known was taken unexpectedly from this world. Patrick William Treadway was born December 29, 1976, in Fort Bragg, North Carolina and grew up in Chicago and the upper peninsula. He earned his BA in English from Western Michigan University followed by his MFA in Poetry from the University of Houston. He spent time as a professional poker player, an entrepreneur, a photographer, and eventually earned his real estate license in Portland, Oregon where he excelled as a beloved realtor. Patrick’s importance to the world and to those who loved him cannot be summed up in a few short paragraphs, so the words that follow here will necessarily be insufficient. In 2013, he met the love of his life, Marie, and their souls were instantly connected with an unbreakable bond that will exist for eternity. Together they raised five children to understand that love is the most important force in the universe. He taught his family how to be joyful, embrace fun, show empathy and compassion, and carry strength with steady gentleness. He role modeled what it means to take care of the people you love and took diligent care of his wife when she was diagnosed with a chronic illness as well as his daughter when she became disabled by severe Long Covid at the age of 15. His family was his world and he devoted his entire soul to loving them all. Each of his children loved him deeply in return and looked up to him as their guide to navigate the world. He loved music and played piano, bass, and guitar. Although he hated to sing, he loved to watch his wife sing karaoke unless he was just being nice about that. He loved animals and they adored him even though he always said he didn’t want any more pets. He created a home that revolved around fun and loved to treat his family to his surprise adventures like Christmas in July. Patrick was joy. He was every child’s favorite uncle. He was music on a sunny day splashing in the pool. He was the wiggle in his walk, the silly face for the camera, the laughter in the room. He was kindness. He was wisdom. He was love. Patrick’s poetry spoke from the depths of his heart and never was this more evident than when he would write to his wife. He believed that everything was written in the stars long before the universe existed and that our energy would remain connected forever. What follows are the words he shared with Marie on a recent birthday. “Every single day I thank the forces at play in the universe that brought us together. Whether it was the free will of our life’s choices that led us to eventually cross paths, or the fact that our meeting was set in stone the moment the stars and the galaxies exploded into being- I know that the collision of our atoms and souls was always meant to be and is the greatest gift I have ever been given. And I’ll be thankful for every moment we have together from today until the energy of our beings and the universe collapse into that single, final, all-encompassing point.” Few people are gifted with a true love story. Though his time on earth was too short, his love lives on and his story never ends. Patrick was predeceased by his mother, Myung Chatrath, in 2015. He will be loved fiercely forever by his wife, Marie, their children Riley, Harper, Georgia, Taylor, and Matthew, his dear cousin Mina and her family, his beloved mother-in-law Jeanie (whom he aways called a saint), his sisters- and brothers-in-law Laura and Joe, Suzy and Korry, and Daniel, along with his 7 nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, he would wish for donations to be sent to The Long Hope Fund which he founded with his wife to benefit other Long Covid survivors like their daughter, Georgia. donate.ohsufoundation.org/patrick-treadway Patrick W.
