Nolan Lloyd Mack Jr.

August 27, 1945 – December 28, 2020

Nolan Lloyd Mack Jr. was born to Nolan Lloyd Sr. and Opal Mack on August 27, 1945 in Portland, Oregon.

Nolan united with Friendship Baptist Church at a very young age and was baptized there, but in 1958 united with New Hope MBC and later united with Greater St. Stephen MBC. Nolan left church for a while, but came back to The Greater St. Stephen MBC under the leadership of Pastor Kimberly K. Black. He attended until his health failed.

Nolan attended Abernathy Elementary Grade School and family and friends noticed how competitive he was. During the summer the entire neighborhood and the Mack kids picked strawberries and beans to make school money.  We all tried to be the big winner but it was always Nolan who won.

Nolan loved to dance.  American Bandstand had branches throughout the USA and the Portland, Oregon branch was “High Time”, Nolan and his dance partner, Gary Ann Taylor were in the 7th and 8th grade and won the dance contest for Portland.

Nolan attended one year at Washington High School and transferred to Grover Cleveland High School. He excelled on the track team, the rally squad, drama club and numerous other clubs and organizations and you know it… class president. His Honor Roll achievements were noticed by the Senator of Oregon, the late Mark Hatfield and he was invited to the White House with a group of “Young Leaders of America”. He graduated high school in the year of 1964. Nolan went to Portland State College and attended for 4 years.

Nolan became the youngest bank president at the age of 25, for Far West Savings and Loan. Nolan was later employed by Multnomah County Health Services Division for many years as an Office Assistant Level II. He bought his dream sports car, a blue Firebird.  It was stolen and found wrecked, he never bought another vehicle.

Nolan was extremely active in plays held in the parks.  Unknown to family, Nolan had an active role with the Darcelle Show, where his stage name was “Lillian Carter”, Nolan was an active Drag Queen and won honors and even won the title & crown of Princess Royal One. Nolan was quite the seamstress making his own ball gowns and shared this talent making choir robes, Usher uniforms for the church and almost anything for friends and family.

Nolan is at rest and is surely missed.

He is preceeded in death by his parents, sister Bettye Jo Coppage; brother Dwight Mack “Ricky” and brother Charles Mack (Buster).

Nolan leaves to celebrate his Homegoing, 5 siblings: sister Carolyn Mays of Portland, OR; brother Ferrell F (Celest) Mack of Portland, OR; sister Joycelyn “Brenda” and (Cleveland) Spencer of Ft. Worth, TX; sister Janet “Janice” Mack; sister Diane (Gregory) O’Neil both of Shreveport, LA.

There is a host of nephews, nieces, great nephews and great nieces; Aunts, Novadean Battle of Waco, TX and Susie Mack of Portland, OR; cousins and numerous friends.
