Myra Belle Shawe of Portland, Oregon

February 20, 1945 – September 15, 2022

On the morning of September 15, 2022, Myra passed away peacefully of natural causes at the home she shared with her husband of over 35 years, Danno Shawe.  Myra was 77 years old.

Myra was born in Salem, Oregon on February 20, 1945, the fourth child and third daughter of Myron Frederick and Leila Belle Butler.  She attended South Salem High School and studied at Willamette University.  Myra was also a strong caring and supportive homemaker throughout her adult life.

Professionally, Myra was a musician and singer in the band Fatt Twice Together (late 1960’s with Gary Nieland), and was distinguished as a multi-award-winning regional center director with Jenny Craig where she worked for several years.

Her interests and hobbies were wide-ranging and passionately pursued including sewing (Christmas fleece pajamas for all family members), gardening (her prized dahlias in particular were revered by her neighbors), reading, movies (Tom Cruise ‘took her breath away’ in Top Gun), and enjoying games with family (while fiercely competitive at cards).  Myra was a life-long pet lover who was the ultimate ‘momma’ for several dogs, most notably her beloved Tug who we know greeted her on arrival when she left us.

Myra’s parents Frederick and Leila Butler and sister, Jane Nettleton preceded her in death.  Surviving immediate family members include Danno Shawe, husband, Fred Butler (wife Karen) and Ann Yuhas, brother and sister, Valorie Cochran (husband Mic), Angela Kupiec (husband Joe), Gray Nieland, Shannon Molner, Dave Molner (wife Robin), and Becca Binford (husband Jason), adult children.

Myra also was an engaging and loving grandparent to Cory Cassel, Alexi Kupiec, Bella and Ezra Maldonado, Nate Watson, Zef and Abby Binford, and great-grandparent to Oliver and Elijah Cassel.

At her core, Myra was a mother and care giver.  She opened her heart and home to many teens over the years that were biologically not her own but took refuge and comfort from her unconditional nurturing ways and support.

A memorial service is being held to celebrate Myra’s life on November 5, 2022, at 2:00 pm at The Portland Vision Church, 3824 SW Troy, Portland, Oregon 97219 and officiated by Lead Pastor Cheo Olvera from the Living Mosaic Portland Church.  Cheo is a long-time spiritual friend and neighbor of Myra and Danno.

Special thanks are extended to Dr. Alexander Ching who was Myra’s physician, and friend, for many years.
