Michael “Mike” Lee Tu

May 30, 1986 – March 25, 2022

Michael Lee Tu also known as “Mike” was born on May 30, 1986 to father Ly and mother Yoong in Roseburg, Oregon. He became an older brother with the birth of his sister Jennifer “Jenny” and earned his husband status when he married Cindy Cha in 2015. His most honorable position as father was granted by the birth of his only child Leo Khualy Tu in 2016. He tragically lost his life on the afternoon of Friday, March 25, 2022.

Mike spent most of his childhood in Portland, Oregon. He attended Wilcox Elementary, Gregory Heights Middle School, and Benson Polytechnic High School. Some of his antics in school still bring laughs and tears to this day. After high school he attended community college until he enlisted in the United States Navy.

His Navy career took him to all places around the county as well as the world. He had the best time in Japan (because he was fluent and loved anime). He made memories in Africa because saying Djibouti just ended up in a lot of laughs, jokes, and terrible pronunciations. He made himself a new family with the Navy and was known to be vibrant, compassionate, and a joy to be around. He continued his service to his Country after as a Naval Reservist where he continued to honor his commitment and service to those around him.

After graduating from Portland State University with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology, Mike dedicated his career and personal life to helping others. His work and advocacy for mental illness served as a beacon of hope and promise for anyone who was lucky enough to have known him.

Mike was a very social person whose hobbies included games and going to the gym. He enjoyed eating good food just as much! He cherished the times he was able to hang out with family and friends and was always in a vibrant mood. We will all miss his presence and beautiful soul but will carry our love for him in our hearts forever.

For those who wish to say good-bye or offer condolences there will be a funeral service held at Omega Funeral Home April 4th, 2022 from 10:00 – 13:00 followed by a military burial service at Willamette National Cemetery at 2:00 PM for the public. Due to the various medical conditions of family members masks will be mandatory for attendance.
