November 26, 1931 - July 29, 2015 Share your Memorial with Family & Friends Maureen Sherman
Beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, Maureen «Mo» Sherman, 83, passed away peacefully Wednesday, July 29, 2015 at her home. She was born in Vancouver, B.C., Canada and moved to the states at age 16 with her parents. She graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1950 and Northwestern College of Business in 1953. Maureen was an avid reader, puzzler, humorist, and gardener. She was a Camp Fire USA leader, volunteer, and registrar, who retired in 1985. She was an exceedingly thoughtful and generous person. She never missed an opportunity to acknowledge birthdays and holidays. The kindest gesture was always acknowledged with a hand-written thank you card. Mo also was very sentimental and kept every card including floral arrangement cards. She decorated her home and yard for every holiday with Halloween and Christmas being her favorites. At Easter, she distributed chocolate bunnies and eggs to friends and family. She loved setting up her «villages» at Christmas, and had so many, that not all of them were displayed each year. She was very proud of her Canadian heritage and had fond memories of her parents’ home on Mayne Island, B.C., Canada. After a trip to Dublin, Ireland with her husband Hank, she became even more enthralled with Ireland. She loved buying people Starbucks gift cards, and shopping from her Irish and Brecks catalogs. Many were gifted with Irish nick knacks, blankets, and sweaters. She was current on news, sports, local events, and politics. She read the newspaper every morning and watched KOIN6 news at night. There wasn’t a topic she couldn’t discuss or have an opinion on. She shared weather reports and mailed news articles to those she thought should read them. She was an avid and loyal sports enthusiast, particularly for the Portland Trailblazers. She loved staying up late to watch David Letterman and Jimmy Fallon. She loved animals, cats and squirrels in particular. She fed stray cats and ground up peanuts for squirrels. She cared deeply for others and was vigilant about questionable activity on her street. Her neighbors were family and they all looked out for one another. Mo is preceded in death by her father, Charles «Lou» and her mother, Violet «Vi.» She is survived by her husband, Henry «Hank» and her children, son and daughter-in-law Lewis and Tara of Portland, OR; daughter and son-in-law Teresa and Barry of Albuquerque, NM; and daughter Kathleen of Portland, OR; 4 grandchildren: Alyx, Tim and his wife Jenna, Kyle, and Phil; her Canadian relatives, and Stephens St. neighbors who she considered «family.» She is and forever will be sorely missed. She was loved by all who knew her. According to her wishes, Mo was cremated and a private service will be held in their garden to celebrate her life.
