Mark Melvin Hanson (Bossman)

1957-2022

On March 8, 2022, Mark Melvin (Bossman) Hanson was surrounded by loved ones as he passed quietly in Portland. Mark Hanson was born to Harold and Patricia Hanson on Aug. 9, 1957 in Portland.

Portland was where he made his life attending Ascension Catholic Grade School and then attending Marshall High School. He loved sports and participated in youth baseball. He, and many of his school mates spent their summers playing baseball at Mt. Tabor Little League.

From an early age, Mark was driven to succeed in business. He started early with a paper route with The Oregon Journal and in 1970 was awarded the best sales award in the city of Portland. While in school, he had a part-time job with Earl Scheib and learned to paint cars. A skill he truly loved.

After he finished school, he had a short stint working at Promotions Products Display Company as a painter. He moved on to Willamette Iron and Steel Company with the Laborers union at the shipyards. However, his dream of being a business owner kept calling him and in 1983 he and Maria Munoz Hanson applied for a business license and opened the doors on Hanson’s Auto Body where he would spend the remainder of his workings days.

Mark was very talented in both auto body repair and painting of all types of vehicles. He shared his talents with numerous employees and was instrumental in the training and development of his staff. Sharing his knowledge was something he enjoyed. Mark was a talented craftsman and had many award-winning paint projects throughout the years.

Later, Mark and Maria incorporated the business and started their partnership in M. Hanson Enterprises. Their business allowed them to diversify and became involved in different endeavors such as Auto Racing ownership. This was a great adventure that was enjoyed by everyone involved.

In his off time, Mark was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was very successful at both and looked forward to his time in the wilderness.

Mark loved his family, and in 1976 Mark and Maria welcomed into the world Kenneth J. Hanson. As a father, Mark was involved with Kenny’s soccer team at different ages and was known to coach and sponsor different teams.

In 2015, due to health issues Mark and Maria closed Hanson’s Auto Body. Mark relocated to Burns where he retired in 2016 and spent time with his son, Kenny, hunting, fishing, camping, and every now and then he would partake in a game of golf. His time in Burns led him to

make numerous friends that truly enriched his life. He enjoyed going to the Round Table and spending time with his newfound friends. Mark had a big heart and was always there to lend a helping hand when asked upon.

Mark is survived by Maria; Sons, Kenneth J. Hanson, Steven, David (Laura), Ben Lucas, Ward Allen, Tommy (Lisa) and TJ Saenz, Donny (Bonnie) and Elliott Brown; Grandchildren, Amber and Michael Lucas; Brothers, Kenneth H. Hanson, Gary W. Hanson and Eric P. Hanson; Beloved Nieces, Heidi, Stacey, Kimmy, Dani, Jenifer Marie Hanson and Julie Marie Munoz.

The Family would like to thank everyone who was a part of Marks life, and especially those who were able to take part in his final days, you all made his journey through this world very special, His beautiful presence will be missed here on earth, but will live on in the hearts of those who knew him.
