Mark Ledford

1954 – 2020

Mark Ledford, 1954-2020, passed away unexpectedly of natural causes at home in Portland on December 17,  2020.

Mark was an avid bicyclist, bike mechanic, pianist, violinist and composer.

A staunch Oregonian, “Ledford” graduated from Reynolds High School, later taking classes at Portland State. He participated in Oregon’s early bicycle racing scene of the 1970s at Delta Park, Alpenrose tracks and the Mt. Tabor Circuit. Mark claimed the 1970 Oregon State Junior road champion, won the 1971 junior race around Crater Lake, and the 1972 B- class Rose Festival race at Mt. Tabor.

Mark worked as a Bike mechanic turning wrenches at Cycle Craft, City Bikes and Bicycle Repair Collective. He supported Strawberry Cycles and advocated cycling for all.

Mark was also a Weather Geek, Jeopardy Nerd, and very proud of his Scrabble skills. Later in life he enjoyed his daily walks at Mt. Tabor Park, observing the birds and nature. Those who knew Mark over the years would agree that he was a brilliant, sensitive, quirky guy.

He will be missed.

Mark is survived by his Mother, Bonnie Ledford of Eugene, and his sister, Dawn Busch, of Moyie Springs, Idaho.

Please remember Mark by getting outside, riding your bike, hiking, and supporting live music and the Arts.
