Perdetia Lorraine was born to Irvin and Bernice Gromachey Dec. 30, 1917 in Portland. She attended Sitton and James John Elementary Schools and graduated from Roosevelt High School. She married Armin E «Bob» Furrer in 1938, and together they raised four children. Bob died in 1976. Lorraine married Robert Shew in 1984 (deceased 1989) and moved to Washington. She returned to St. Johns in 2009. Lorraine was a member of St. Johns Christian Church and Sumner (Wash.) First Christian Church. She raised her children to lead a Christian life. She was involved in James John, Sitton, and Roosevelt PTAs. Lorraine retired as program director for the St. Johns’ YWCA where she developed services and activities for the women and children of the area. Lorraine loved sewing, gardening and music, and often used her talents in those areas to serve others. Lorraine is survived by her children, Robert Furrer, Carolyn Mapile, Jeanine (Tom) Sinnott and Suzanne (Rockne) Stites; stepdaughters, Lynn Fenton and Joy Wallace; grandchildren, Kristina (Jimmy), Evonne, Matthew (Rachael), Kevin (Erin), Katie (Andrew) and Todd (Kim); step-grandchildren, Wesley, Leanne, Norm, Marc and Eric; and many great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents; sister, Betty Carter; and brother, Lawrence «Bud» Gromachey. A memorial service will be held Saturday, Feb. 11, 2012, 2:30 p.m. at St. Johns Christian Church. The family suggests remembrances to St. Johns Christian Church, Sumner First Christian Church, or Winema Christian Camp.
