May 21, 1941 - March 10, 2024 Share your Memorial with Family & Friends Leonard “Randy” Philip Randall, 82, of Fairview, Oregon, entered into the presence of his Lord and Savior on March 10, 2024. He passed peacefully in the comforting care of his wife Verlinda. Leonard was born on May 21, 1941, in Ann Arbor, Michigan, to Leland and Marion (Gooding) Randall. Leland was an accomplished musician and teacher, and Marion was a talented organist. Leonard began learning the trumpet at the age of 5. He soon joined a trumpet trio and continued to develop his musical skills. Leonard received Christ as His Savior in high school, when he attended a First Baptist Church with his grandfather. Leonard joined the navy in October of 1959, and served as a musician, playing trumpet and leading the band. During his deployment to the Philippines, he met Romana Abayare, whom he married on June 8, 1967. They were married until her passing in 1986. Leonard, Romana and her daughter Susan, were stationed in Washington, Virginia, Italy, Connecticut, Texas, and Hawaii. He retired as a chief musician in Seattle, Washington in 1985. On his birthday, in 1988, Leonard married Verlinda Jazmines in Seattle, Washington. They were blessed with two children, Laura Ann and Vernon Allen. In 1993, they moved to Portland, Oregon and soon joined Greater Portland Baptist Church, where Leonard would faithfully play his trumpet every Sunday. Leonard was able to live his dream when the family moved to the Philippines in 2002. There he continued to use his talents by starting church orchestras, teaching trumpet lessons, and playing gigs at every chance. He was active in his local church ministries and helped with starting mission churches. He was a member of the Redeemed Riders motorcycle gang. He enjoyed traveling the Philippines, spending much time at the beach and drinking buko juice. He loved the Filipino people. Health issues brought Leonard and his family back to Oregon in 2009. He continued to serve at Greater Portland Baptist Church and volunteered for the Honor Guard. Leonard was a competitive and skilled tennis player. He was a member of several tennis leagues. Family members remember never being able to beat him. He was a caring and supportive husband, father and grandfather. He was always in the background letting others shine and enjoyed listening to and watching his family. He was a faithful friend and was always ready to share a cup of coffee. While planning his memorial service, Leonard wrote in the title line, “Let the Celebration Begin.” He had a sure hope of a home in heaven, and his family celebrates his life well lived. Leonard was preceded in death by his parents, Leland M. Randall and Marion Augusta Randall, his brother Marshall Lee Randall, and his wife, Romana Abayare Randall. The celebration of life will be held at 11:00 am on April 13, 2024, at Greater Portland Baptist Church. Pastor Rick Adams will be officiating. There will be a lunch reception to follow. Funeral arrangements have been handled by Omega Funeral & Cremation Service.
