William Lawrence Swanton “Larry”, a Casper Wyoming native, passed away on May 19, 2019 at the age of 74 in Portland Oregon. Larry was born in Casper on September 23, 1944, the first child of Bill and Jane Swanton.

He was also the first grandchild to the Swanton family and the Bon family, both long-time pioneer families of Casper and Wyoming. Larry was active in Boy Scouts through Explorer level, spent many summer days exploring the hills outside Casper with his buddy Rick Eaton, and learned early business skills with a daily newspaper route. He attended the local public schools and graduated from Natrona County High School in 1963. He worked for a year at a grand hotel, the Suvretta House in St. Moritz, Switzerland and was a page for the Wyoming State Legislature.

After an injury in the oil field in Wyoming, Larry arrived in Portland, Oregon with his leg in a cast. Through a connection to Dean Art Schulte, he attended the University of Portland and graduated in the fall of 1970 with a Bachelor degree in Business Finance. In 1973, Larry married Margaret Peg Hafner in Sublimity, Oregon and they raised their family in Portland. They later divorced in 2016.

Larry worked at Pacific Power & Light/Nerco in the accounting department and then at Mentor Graphics. He was an at-home dad after his work at Mentor Graphics. Larry enjoyed summer tent-camping in the Pacific Northwest and working on yard/home projects. He was also an avid reader and appreciated a wide range of music. Health issues in May of ’17 resulted in residence at Hope & Care, a resident care facility.

Larry is survived by their children son, Isaiah, daughter Miri Grandy (Brandon) and Peter Bun (fostered for 20 years); granddaughter, Madison Clayberger: his siblings, brother Randy Swanton (Karen Pietras), sisters, Bonnie (David Bitner) and Nancy (Bob Kidd) and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Larry was preceded in death by his daughter, Micaelee and his grandson, Noah.

Services will be held on June 2, 2019 at 2:00pm at Omega.
