Kodie Marie Bridwell

1988-2020

On January 5, 2020, Kodie Marie Bridwell, passed away at her apartment in Portland, Oregon.  She was 32 years old. Kodie was born in Sebastopol, California, at 12:55am on January 3, 1988, to Eva and Dennis Bridwell who resided in Bodega Bay, California.

Kodie attended pre-school in Bodega Bay a small community.  After moving to Silver City, Nevada, Kodie attended school in Carson City, Nevada.  12 years passed and Kodie and family relocated to Portland, Oregon.  She attended Grout and Fairview Elementary Schools.

At age 15 Kodie was diagnosed with Psychosis and Schizophrenia.  The following years were traumatic for her and family. After years passed she wasa able to get help and medications.  Her life slowly improved in small steps.  During this time her mother, Eva passed away in 2009.

The last 2-3 years of Kodie’s life, Kodie improved, a tribute to her strength and ability to cope.   She started to develop a life , she loved  to shop, and was forever giving everyone gifts, tried to help everyone, and saw no bad in anybody.  Still coping with the ups and downs of her illness, she moved forward.

From January 2018, with the help of Becky Shoup, she volunteered at St. Rita’s Catholic Church a couple of weekends a month, working in a food pantry and at Christmas food box events.  This was something she really enjoyed!  Also she went to Mt. Hood GED program.

In the summer of 2019, she completed a Nami peer to peer  recovery education course.  I was beyond proud of her.

Kodie is survived by her father Dennis Bridwell, two aunts Leslie and Brad Pierson and Denise Bridwell and partner, two cousins Rochell and Blake Pierson.

Memorial Services will be held at 11:30am on January 16, 2020 at Omega Funeral and Cremation Service  Chaplain Larry Hansen of Portland will be officiating.

A gathering in remembrance will be held afterwards at St. Rita’s Catholic Church at 1:00pm  10029 N.E. Prescott Portland, OR 97220.
