Kirsten A. Lounsbury

August 9, 1971 – November 3, 2023

Kirsten A. Lounsbury passed away peacefully on November 3, 2023.    Kirsten was born on August 9, 1971 in Lansing, Michigan. Kirsten spent her childhood and teenage years in Knoxville, TN, graduating from Bearden High School in 1989. Kirsten first attended Randolph Macon Woman’s College, then onto Mills College in Oakland, California where she graduated in 1993 with a degree in Political Science. During her time in school, Kirsten achieved Phi Theta Kappa and Golden Key Honor Society.

In early adulthood, Kirsten began to struggle with early onset of mental issues that would challenge her the rest of her life. Kirsten returned to Knoxville in 1993 and would eventually live with father, John Lounsbury and step-mother, Lucy Gibson. During this time, despite difficulty working, Kirsten enjoyed learning language and continuing education, taking numerous courses at University of Tennesse, studying French, Russian and Italian.  She had a hard life but generally kept an incredibly positive spirit, often looking at the bright despite numerous setbacks.  She laughed a lot, loved (loved) animals, ‘fancy things’ and had a great sense of humor that we will all carry with us as we face our own challenges.

In 2016, John and Kirsten moved to Portland, Oregon where Kirsten would reside until her death on November 3, 2023.

Kirsten was preceded in death by her mother, Karen Lounsbury (1986), John Lounsbury (2020) and her step-mother Lucy Gibson (2015).

Kirsten is survived by her brother, Matthew Lounsbury, cousins John, Laura and Sarah Wise, Uncle Tom Lounsbury, Aunt Mary Lounsbury and Uncle Odem Wise.

A Digital Memorial Service will be held for Kirsten on November 20, 2023, 2PM PST, courtesy of the First Unitarian Church of Portland.
