Kenneth “Kip” Anton Anderson, 71, of Gresham, Oregon, passed away at home on February 6, 2017, following a 3 1/2 year battle with cancer.  He left this earth with family at his side.

Kip was born at St. Vincent Hospital in Portland, Oregon on May 12, 1945.  His mother, Mary had just learned of his father, Harold “Bud” Anderson’s death in a plane crash as a result of friendly fire in Germany just prior to the end of WWII.  Later, upon his mother’s marriage to Les Schlegel, the family resided in Forest Grove, Oregon where Kip attended school through the 12th grade.  He then was enrolled at Oregon State University until his graduation in 1968.

Kip was an active member of the Civil Air Patrol during high school.  During his college years he was in ROTC.  After graduation from Oregon State, he entered Officer Candidate School in the Marine Corp.  He remained interested in military history throughout his life.

Kip is survived by his wife of 49 years, Jean, and two children, Scott Christopher (spouse Corinna), grandchildren Noah and Ava; and Kristen Nicole (spouse James Cox) grandchildren Audrey, Braden, Caroline and Delaney.  Kip loved his children, their spouses, and treasured the wonderful grandchildren they brought into the family. Also survived is his sister Cassie Schlegel Kottcamp of Bend, Oregon and brother Warren Schlegel of Portland.  Family homes included the cities of Tigard, Raleigh Hills, Lake Oswego, Sunriver, and Gresham.

Kip was in banking his entire working career where he made and kept a multitude of friends.  He was highly respected for his integrity and concern for his customers and staff.

Kip will be genuinely missed by his family and friends.  A celebration of life will be held at a later date and will be displayed on the Omega Funeral Services website.  In lieu of flowers at that time, donations may be given to the Oregon chapters of the American Cancer Society and the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

A special thank you is extended by the family to Kip’s oncologist, Dr. Nick Barber for his incredible care and treatment.  A thank you as well to the team at Providence Oncology and Hematology Department at St. Vincent’s Hospital who all provided such personal care.  A special thank you to Providence Hospice, although the time with hospice was very brief, they showed such genuine care and support to Kip and the family.
