Karen Sue McCoy

July 25, 1942 – October 14, 2021

Karen Sue McCoy, 79, of Portland, Oregon passed away from cancer on October 14, 2021.

Karen was born in Little Rock, Arkansas and is preceded in death by her parents Veeda “La Verne” Williamson and Ira Melvin “Dick” Williamson.  She is survived by her daughter, Peggy Price, granddaughter Kathryn Price (James), great grandson, Ryan, sister Rita Bargeron (Thomas) and niece Michelle Taylor (Scott) and their children.

Karen graduated from East Jefferson High School in 1960, and went on to attend Louisiana State University.  She worked for Boeing Company where she met her first husband, Donald L Price.  They were married from 1964 to 1980 and had one daughter, Peggy Sue.  Karen later married Tom McCoy (now divorced) and eventually retired from US West.

Karen was baptized in November of 1942 at Winfield Memorial Methodist Church in Little Rock, Arkansas.  Church and her deep faith were a cornerstone in Karen’s life.

Karen had a passion for motor sports, and she volunteered for Sports Car Club of America (SCCA) for more than 35 years.  She was the office administrator for the Oregon Region chapter for many years as well.  She was the friendly voice on the phone for anyone with a question.  She knew the answer to just about everything, and if she didn’t, she knew where to get it.  Karen greeted everyone with a smile as they came through event registration.  If she missed you at registration, she’d hop on the golf cart to find you.  Hugs were given freely.

Karen was also passionate about animals, especially dogs.  She owned many over the years that she never forgot.  She always brought her companions with her, so if you knew Karen, you also met Annie, Millie, or Newman in recent years!

A private service will be held at The Parish of Saint Mark, Portland, OR on November 1, 2021.  A date for a celebration memorial will be announced in the near future.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Lexi Dog of Portland, or the Oregon Humane Society in her name.  The family wishes to thank Viorica (“Lucy”) of Golden Age Living, and the staff at PeaceHealth SW Hospice for their love and care.
