April 8, 1962 - March 20, 2024 Share your Memorial with Family & Friends Karen Irene Davis (Manning), was born on April 8, 1962 in Portland Oregon. She spent nearly all of her life in Northeast Portland. Growing up in Alameda, buying her first house in Roseway, and finally raising children and spending the rest of her life in Rose City Park. Karen was known for the zest and flair she brought to life, starting with the bright colors and big hair she sported as a child. At age 16, armed with a driver’s license and car she was ready for adventure. Karen relished in the freedom a car afforded and she loved to drive fun cars…usually too fast. Her dad’s many classic cars meant you might spot Karen cruising Fremont St. in a mustang or Triumph convertible. Those cars also brought her to her first job at Lloyd Center’s Joe Brown Carmel Corn where she met her high school sweetheart, Jefferson. Karen graduated from Washington Monroe high school in 1980 and married Jefferson just a couple short months later. Karen spent her early adult years building a home, exploring Oregon’s beaches and mountains with Jefferson, and immersing herself in her church community. It was there where she established her faith along with cherished friendships that lasted until she passed. After a long and hard journey, she realized her dream of motherhood with the birth of her son, Matthew, and four years later her daughter, Katelyn. Karen loved her children deeply and was a fierce advocate for them, from their healthcare, to their education, to their relationships. She loved being a mom and brought such care and commitment to creating a loving and fun childhood for Matthew and Katelyn. Enlisting her children in decorating the house for holidays was a mainstay – Easter, Halloween and Christmas being her favorites. After Matthew was born she started a career in healthcare, performing administrative work for Portland Family Practice. Later she returned to school to receive her Certified Medical Assistant professional degree. Over the years she was consistently recognized for her strong clinical and professional leadership. She finished her career as a Program Manager for Providence Health and Services. Like all aspects of her life, Karen brought incredible dedication and commitment to her work, and was proud of her accomplishments. Later in life Karen met John Cole, who became her beloved partner of 20 years. Karen and John enjoyed their retirements by spending time at the coast and caring for their dogs, Kooper, Bailee and Bella. Karen became “Mimi” with the birth of her first grand-daughter, Luci. Karen loved being ‘Mimi’ to each of her three grand-daughters Luci, Eisley and Rylie, and made sure they each felt special just for being themselves. She carried her love for celebrating on to them, ensuring each holiday was marked with wishes and gifts. Above all else, Karen will be remembered for her power and presence. A woman who loved her friends and family deeply – and could make anyone feel like royalty with her hugs and boisterous greetings. She will be dearly missed. Karen passed away in her home on March 20th, 2024, far too early. She is survived by her birthmother Linda; sisters Cindy, Sharon, Victoria and Kim; son Matthew (Cassie); daughter Katelyn (Dalton); and granddaughters Luci, Eisley and Rylie. A celebration of life will be hosted by her family on Saturday April 27th, 1PM. 2955 SE 77th Avenue, Portland, Oregon 97206. Karen I. Davis
